Joël and Régis only have in common their father whom they barely know. Claiming at the bedside of their father dying in the West Indies, they receive for every inheritance the act of liberation that restored freedom to their slave ancestors, a document that is transmitted from generation to generation. Disregarding the symbolic richness of this document, they tear it apart.
