Shahidi was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota to an Iranian father and an African-American mother. At the age of 4, she moved with her family to California due to her father's work.
She began her career when she was only six years old, in commercials such as McDonald's, Ralph Lauren, Target, GapKids, Disney, Guess Kids.
She will make her film debut in 2009, alongside Eddie Murphy in Imagine That, for which she received a Young Artist Award nomination. Then she will play in "Salt" with Angelina Joly and soon alongside Tyler Perry in Alex Cross scheduled for release in 2012.
