Born on: 12 May 1959 , New York  -
Raised on the streets of Harlem, Ving (real name Irving) Rhames was directed to acting classes because of his perfect elocution. Fascinated by the theater, he managed to get into the prestigious High School for the Performing Arts in New York City (he was the youngest student ever admitted), and then, on a scholarship, went to study classical theater at the Juilliard School of Dramatic Arts. Television gave him his first chance, and he then hit the Broadway stage alongside Matt Dillon in 'The Winter Boys'. In 1986, he played his first film role in Jerrold Freedman's 'Native Son'. He then appeared in Brian de Palma's saga 'Outrages', and went on to star in films with Michael J. Fox, Sean Penn and Matt Dillon. |
