Dorothy Jean Dandridge Hija de un ministro y de la comediante Ruby Dandridge, aprendió a cantar y a bailar con su madre. Al mismo tiempo, ella y su hermana mayor, Vivian, actuaban como los Wonder Kids en espectáculos de la iglesia. El dúo realizó una gira por Estados Unidos y ambos fueron descubiertos por un cazatalentos de la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. En 1932, se trasladaron a Hollywood. En la década de 1940, Dorothy Dandridge presta su voz a varios cortometrajes de animación, y desempeña papeles secundarios en varias producciones cinematográficas, como: La hija del pescador (1941) con John Wayne, Dos vaqueros nimios (1942) con Bud Abbott y Lou Costello, Jordan el rebelde (1942) con Alan Ladd, y Desde que te fuiste (1944) con Claudette Colbert. |
